Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has broken her silence to join the growing list of people condemning Harvey Weinstein over his sexual harassment scandal.
“I was shocked and appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein. The behavior described by women coming forward cannot be tolerated. Their courage and the support of others is critical in helping to stop this kind of behavior,” Clinton said.
The statement from Mrs. Clinton comes after numerous political observers wondered why she was hesitating to condemn Weinstein in a public statement.
Other Democratic leaders are also facing pressure to distance themselves from the Hollywood giant and address the support he gave them in the past.
Chelsea Clinton recently offered her thoughts on Twitter as well, saying the latest news about Weinstein is “horrifying” and “harrowing.”
The abhorrent story surrounding the once powerful and now thoroughly disgraced movie studio executive Harvey Weinstein has served as a damning indictment of not just his political allies, but also the entertainment journalism industry charged with covering him.
Clinton’s statement on the Weinstein scandal was published via Twitter:
